Services
“I was glad when they said to me, let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1
Our worship services offer a familiar feel with a relevant message. God and the Bible are amazingly relevant to people living in 21st century North Arlington. Many of the ways we worship God in our services have been around for thousands of years: praying, confessing, singing, sharing in baptism and communion, reading the scriptures. Christianity has a long heritage and a bright future. We like connecting to all of it.
Sunday worship services are at 8:30 and 11:00 AM. During July and August, we move to a Summer Worship Schedule – one service at 10:00 AM.
The 8:30 AM worship service is held in the Chapel located on the second floor, just off the main lobby. Folk songs, praise songs and traditional hymns provide the acoustic guitar musical accompaniment for the worship service. Child care is provided for children from 0 to 3 years of age in our bright and professionally staffed nursery located on the third floor. Children are also welcome in the service.
The 11:00 AM worship service is located in the main Sanctuary located on the second floor just off the main lobby. The beautiful stained glass cross window is the visual centerpiece of worship. The worship music at Little Falls is rich and varied. Hymns, praise songs, spiritual, world music – classical and contemporary – choir and congregation sing songs of praise and worship. Instrumental accompaniment is provided by pipe organ and piano, and varied instruments. Child care is provided in the nursery for children from 0 to 3 years old.
We are a neighborhood church and a multi-generational congregation. We enjoy the richness of a large extended family. The Reverend Pastor Matt Merrill preaches at worship services. Messages are topical and scriptural - timeless values providing Biblical guidance for contemporary life presented in accessible language. Children from preschool through third grade are invited to leave the worship service during the sermon in order to participate in an interactive, age appropriate bible story time. Children rejoin their parents at the close of worship.
The Sanctuary and Chapel are accessible by ramp and elevator. The rear parking lot off Williamsburg Boulevard provides the closest access to elevators through the double glass doors. Large print Bibles and Hymnals, as well as hearing assist units, are available for worship.

What to expect
We know – it’s not easy visiting a church for the first time. Sometimes you feel like a nonmember visiting a country club.
Do I belong here?
Am I really welcome?
Will the people be unfriendly, or too friendly?
Will I be conspicuous?
Will it be easy for me to leave if I don't enjoy it?
Will they ask me for money?
Will my kids enjoy it?
How should I dress?
Am I welcome if I don't believe?
We want to make your visit an enjoyable, easy and stress-free experience. We designed Little Falls to be "user-friendly" for people, whatever their background, including those who have never been to church before. If any of us were visiting a new church for the first time, we’d like to know what to expect, so here’s a brief overview. When you arrive at Little Falls for either our 8:30 or 11:00 am services, you´ll notice that the majority of our parking is located behind the church building (towards Williamsburg Blvd). You are welcome to park either in front or back of the church or on Little Falls Road in the parking lane. Enter the church through any door. If you enter from the rear of the building, you’ll want to take the stairs (inside or outside) or the elevator to the main floor (marked as “1”).
When you arrive on the main floor, there should be some friendly people (we call them "greeters") to say hello, answer any questions you have, and direct you to the sanctuary. If you have infants or toddlers, the greeters will help you locate our safe, clean and fun nursery on the top floor. We will register your child there and let you know about our security so you’ll know your kids are safe and well cared for.
You’ll notice that most people generally dress in a business-casual or business-dress manner. Our Pastor Matt usually wears an open-collared shirt to the 8:30 service and a coat and tie to the 11:00 service.
When you come in the sanctuary, you’ll be given a copy of " The Bulletin" which has the week’s announcements and an easy to follow guide to the day’s service. During the service, we ask everyone to sign in with our “Friendship Register.” Giving us your contact information helps our leaders keep you informed about things happening at Little Falls. We don’t share visitor information with any other organizations and promise not to harass you with a million mailings and phone calls.
The service focuses on a theme each week. Usually there is a thought provoking quote on the front of the Bulletin to give you a hint at where we are heading that Sunday. We use prayers, songs, a sermon to worship God. All of the song lyrics, prayers and Bible texts are printed in the Bulletin for your convenience.
If you have children ages 4 to 3rd grade, we have small groups for them that meet during the sermon time of the 11:00 service. Watch for the Pastor to invite the children to come forward. They will exit as a group and be looked after by caring adults who have been screened and trained. They will all return to you in the service following the sermon.
During the service we take up a financial offering each week. We don’t expect for you to put anything in the offering plate. Rather we view the service as a gift to you. It’s the duty and privilege of our members to support the ministry of the church. However, nobody will stop you from giving if you feel like it.
The service ends about 70 minutes after it begins (and believe it or not, the time will fly).
After the service, you’ll pick up your kids from the nursery, and then we hope you’ll stay around, meet some people and enjoy some coffee, cookies, and snacks. Church is about God and worship, but it’s also about community and friendship, so we hope people really experience warmth and friendliness at Little Falls.
Thanks for your interest!

History & Future
Little Falls Presbyterian Church was founded in 1951 when our neighborhood was being built. Led by Pastor Frank Erwin, the church grew rapidly during the 1950s and included Astronaut John Glenn among its members. At that time the church was the center of the community. It offered rich worship services, warm fellowship and intellectually stimulating opportunities for Christian growth.
The church has been able to serve people in the neighborhood, nation and around the globe over the years. We have housed refugees, fed the poor, helped parents raise their children, and served the homeless of Arlington.
Today, we are heading towards the future by reflecting the values of our past:
- strong biblical preaching about practical issues
- partnering with parents in the raising of their children
- being a place to form rich relationships in our neighborhood
- serving people who have physical and spiritual needs locally and globally
